YMCA Edinburgh House
Ellis Hillman Partnership were instructed by the YMCA to design and project manage the complete internal refurbishment of their existing facility at Edinburgh House, which was originally designed and built by Ellis Hillman Partnership.
The clear span original construction enabled us to remove all internal walls and create entirely new living accommodation for the building residents. This layout was then repeated over all floors of the building in a phased process. Each floor consisted of 12no. ensuite bedrooms with a shared living and dining space and a separate office and store. All rooms are accessed from a central corridor, with fire escape stairs located at either end.
The rooms are efficiently designed to maximise the potential of the available space and provide the residents with flexible, comfortable and secure facilities for all their essential needs. Bedrooms are naturally lit, bright and modern and all benefit from views of the surrounding area. The relatively large shared living spaces encourage interaction and provide all necessary cooking and dining facilities, as well as generous seating areas for socialising.
The site also offers employment and skills training and education facilities, so residents are ideally located to enable them to ‘develop their world’ within a campus community.
